The Panchayati Raj system in Indian villages is a decentralized form of governance that empowers local self-government and facilitates grassroots democracy. Established to involve rural populations in their own governance, the system ensures that the development needs and priorities of villages are effectively addressed through local participation and decision-making.
The Panchayati Raj system consists of three levels
Members of each panchayat are elected by the residents of the village, ensuring democratic representation and accountability.
Empowering village communities to manage local affairs, such as public health, education, sanitation, and infrastructure development.
Panchayats have the authority to generate and manage their own revenues through taxes, grants, and other means, ensuring financial independence and the ability to fund local projects.
